An aero-modeller from age 8, flying RC since 1972, he is currently a BMFA Examiner and a member of Colchester MAC. John has been a national category competition winner and now flies pattern (aerobatics), scale, rotary-wing, gliders and experiments with hybrid aircraft concepts.
John's day job is an aeronautical engineer, he was an undergraduate apprentice at BAE starting his career as a stress engineer in 1984.
He went into consulting then started his own business in 1988. Forming a joint venture with GE in 1991 he has since built up a succession of companies involved primarily in computer-aided engineering (CAE).
John is now Managing Director of Acroflight Ltd which undertakes consulting projects and R&D activities.
John has held post-holder positions at CAA and EASA approved design organisations and also holds delegated signatory across several Airbus suppliers. He was also Chief of Stress and Head of Structures at Pilatus Aircraft in Switzerland during the development of the PC24 business jet.
John holds a PPL and has around 1000 hours flying 20+ types and visiting 150+ airfields in Europa and the USA. John owns a Europa tri-gear G-IPOD which he uses for touring around Europe.
John is active in the submission of reports to the Light Aircraft Association (LAA) to enable modifications and new aircraft types to be approved.
He is currently looking at compliance and containment for the twin jet installation in Rich Goodwin's Jet Pitts G-JPIT.
